Silver Spring is a census -designated place in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. It is located at 104 meters above sea level and has an area of 24.4 km ² 76,540 inhabitants and 30 374 households ( Census 2000). In 1887 there was the first settlements here.

In Silver Spring is located the headquarters of the federal National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ( NOAA) and a data center ( National Oceanographic Data Center ), the headquarters of the media company Discovery Communications, the headquarters of the Seventh- day Adventist Church and the seat of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious.
