Silvi Vrait

Silvi Vrait ( born April 28, 1951 in Kehra, Harju County, † June 28, 2013 in Tallinn) was an Estonian pop and jazz singer, who in 1994 at Euro Vision Song Contest participated among others.

Life

Silvi Vrait attended until 1968 the music school for children in Kehra in piano. In 1969 she graduated from high school in Kehra. Until 1974 she studied English and Education at the University of Tartu. From 1976 to 1983 she worked in the theater and opera house Vanemuine in Tartu. She was a teacher at the French Lyceum and at the renowned Georg Ots Music School in Tallinn -.

The singing career of Silvi Vrait began in 1972 with the junior broadcast Kaks tactical ette in the Estonian television and in Käokava program. After that she was a soloist and singer in many ensembles of the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic and the freedom of Estonia, among others Suuk (1973-1975) and Fix (1975-1984, 1995-2003). In 1994, Vrait the first Estonian to a Euro Vision Song Contest final part. With the song Nagu merelaine ( German "Like a wave of the sea " ), it reached two points and just ahead of Lithuania the penultimate place.

Vrait died on June 28, 2013 in a hospital in Tallinn at the age of 62 years from the effects of a brain tumor. She leaves behind her son Silver Vrait.
