Silvi

The 15.442 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) scoring Comune di Silvi (also: Città di Silvi ) is an agglomeration of several places in Italy in the province of Teramo. The most important are:

  • Silvi Alta in the foothills of the Abruzzo
  • Silvi Marina on the coast of the Adriatic

Silvi Alta is a small, situated on a hill-top town with many medieval elements. Particularly noteworthy is the small, visible only at second glance as a Romanesque church main church. The fortified settlement Silvi Alta was created to better protect themselves against attacks by pirates and other attack that threatened the population in the Middle Ages.

Silvi Marina is located on the coast and is the former beach and fishing town, which belonged to the upper town.

Today Silvi Marina is considerably larger than the medieval Silvi Alta. In the center there are some handsome villas which may have originated on visual inspection around the turn of the century ( 19th/20th. Century).
