Silvia Schmitt ( born April 19, 1962 in Kempten ( Allgäu) ) is a former German handball player. The left-hander played mostly at right back.

Silivia Schmitt appearances for Germany 245 international matches, in which they threw 751 goals. She participated at the Olympic Games in 1984 and 1992, reaching their team fourth place respectively. The end of 1998 they were at the age of 36 years, her last comeback for the national team. In the same year she was elected as a handball player of the year. After the 1999 European Championship in the Netherlands they then gave her farewell match.

As a trainer - Silvia Schmitt has the B license - she was responsible for the German national handball team for women together with Dago Leukefeld from 1 February 2001. After the team reached only a disappointing ninth place finish at the 2000 European Championships, she finished this commitment in March 2001. Recently she starred in the 2004/05 season at the age of 42 years for one season at the then second division HSG Kleenheim.

The trained retail saleswoman is working as a product manager.
