Silvio Blatter

Life

Silvio Blatter comes from a working class family. He attended the district school in his hometown from 1962 to 1966, the teachers' seminary in Wettingen ( AG). He then spent six years as a primary school teacher in Aarau. In 1970, he worked for several months in a company in the metal industry.

In 1972 he took up the study of German at the University of Zurich, which he broke off after six semesters. In 1974 he was again active in the industry, this time as a machinist in the plastics industry. In 1975, he trained as a radio drama director at the Swiss Radio DRS. After extended stays in Amsterdam and in Husum he settled down in 1976 as a freelance writer in Zurich. Today he lives in Upper Smooth in Canton Zurich and Munich.

Services

Silvio Blatter, who mainly writes prose, depicts in his early works everyday life and the monotony of industrial work on detailed manner. The author is best known for his so-called free office trilogy consisting Growing from the novels homesickness, no more beautiful country and the gentle law that paint a broad picture of Blatter's home region, the free office Aargau, and its inhabitants. In the 1990s came Blatter's literary activity in the background, and he devoted himself almost ten years mainly in painting. Since 2000, writing and painting are again equally important for him.
