Sim, Chelyabinsk Oblast
Sim (Russian Сим ) is a city in Chelyabinsk Oblast (Russia) with 14,466 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The city is located on the western flank of the Southern Urals about 340 km west of the Oblasthauptstadt Chelyabinsk on Sim, a right tributary of the opening into the Kama Belaya.
Sim belongs to Rajon Ascha.
The city is located ( station Simskaja; kilometer in 1759 from Moscow ) on the southern section of the Trans-Siberian Railway Moscow - Samara Chelyabinsk - Omsk and the M5 highway Moscow - Chelyabinsk.
History
Sim was born in 1759 in connection with the establishment of ironworks Simski Zavod. During the Pugachev rebellion 1773-75, the factory was destroyed in 1778 but reopened. On 13 November 1942, the site received under the present name of a town.
