Simeon Olcott
Simeon Olcott ( born October 1, 1735 in Bolton, Connecticut, † February 22, 1815 in Charlestown, New Hampshire ) was an American politician.
Life
Olcott was born the son of a farmer and therefore worked until the age of 21 in his native operation. Promoted by a Reverend White from Bolton, made Olcott in 1761 graduated from Yale College, and worked as a substitute teacher in elementary schools. Also financial support received Olcott by his older brother, who was also a priest.
After leaving school at the College Olcott moved to Massachusetts, where he still worked as a teacher at a school in Hatfield. But Olcott could out of life is a teacher only little, so he moved to Hinsdale in New Hampshire, where he trained as a lawyer at the law firm of Daniel Jones. In 1766 he opened in Charlestown on the Connecticut River his own law firm.
Political career
In 1769, Olcott was elected to the city council of Charlestown, he held this position until 1771 was carried out. Two years later he was appointed judge of the probate court of Cheshire County. Olcott enjoyed now a good reputation and therefore went with Benjamin West in a partnership which is now jointly managed a law firm.
The American Revolutionary War was Olcott's life to its foundations shake, when he suddenly had to accept that the territory on which he lived, now should be a part of the new State of Vermont. But he was appointed to the Supreme Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Cheshire County on December 25, 1784 and served six years. Following his appointment as Judge of the Superior Court of New Hampshire took place on March 28, 1795 Olcott's appeal to the Supreme Judge of the state.
Following the resignation of Senator Samuel Livermore on June 12, 1801 Olcott was determined on June 17 of the same year as his successor. Olcott, party member of the Federalist Party, held office until March 3, 1805.
Late life
About the private life of Simeon Olcott is not known. After retiring from the Senate, he retired and died in 1815, at the age of 79 years.
