Simoca

Simoca is the capital of the department of Simoca in Tucumán Province in northwestern Argentina. Simoca has 7,939 inhabitants (2001, INDEC ) and lies 52 kilometers from the provincial capital San Miguel de Tucumán away.

Economy

Simoca is a rural center, whose main product is the cultivation of sugar cane. In addition, the pig and the processing of pork is an important economic factor. On the nationally known market you can buy pork and live pigs. It is said that this Markttradtion goes back to the founding years of the place.

Festivals

  • Fiesta de la Feria de Simoca. The market festival, held in July 1980 for the first time, is a feast for the care of the traditions of the Northwest, including the gastronomic tradition and very popular with Argentine tourists from other regions of the country.
  • Festival Nacional del sulky. The sulky still belong to the cityscape of Simoca, especially on market day, Saturday. Since 1973, the Sulky Festival will be held in the Club Unión Simoca stadium every year.
