Simon Busuttil

Simon Busuttil ( born March 20, 1969 in Attard, Malta) is a Maltese politician and Member of the European Parliament. He is a member of the Maltese Nationalist Party, Member of the European People's Party office, and sits on the Committee on Budgetary Control of the European Parliament and its Committee on Budgets.

Busuttil is also deputy chairman of Regional Development and a deputy in the Temporary Committee on the alleged use of European countries by the CIA for the transportation and illegal detention of prisoners. He is also Vice-Chairman of the Delegation for relations with the Maghreb countries and the Arab Maghreb Union (including Libya) and a member of the Delegation to the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly.

Career

Simon Busuttil achieved the degree of Doctor of Laws in 1994 from the University of Malta. In 1994, he became in addition the academic degree of MA in " European Studies" at the University of Sussex in 1995 and the title of Magister Juris in International Law at the University of Malta. As early as 1994 he became a partner in a law firm. He has worked as a consultant on EU issues; as 1996, the Minister of the Environment of Malta, 1998, the Ministers of Education and 2003/ 2004 for the Minister of Foreign Affairs. From 1999 to 2003, Busuttil Head of the EU Information Centre in Malta and in the same period a member of the Core Negotiating Group Malta - EU. From 1999-2004 he was a member of the Steering and Action Committee Malta - EU.

Public offices

Simon Busuttil was during his studies from 1989 to 1991 chairman of the Christian Democratic Students ( SDM) and 1991-1992 student representative on the Senate of the University of Malta. In 1992 he was International Secretary of the National Youth Council (Malta). From 1997 to 1999 Busuttil was Secretary General of the European Movement of Malta. In 1998 he was Chairman of the Association for Shopping at the airport.

In 2012, Busuttil is a member of the following committees and delegations: the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, the Committee on Petitions, the special committee on organized crime, corruption and money laundering and the Delegation for relations with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo. As deputy Busuttil is the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection, in the Delegation for relations with Switzerland and Norway and to the Joint Parliamentary Committee EU-Iceland Joint Parliamentary Committee European Economic Area and in the Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean
