Simon Callow

Simon Callow CBE ( born June 13, 1949 in London, United Kingdom ) is a British actor.

Life and work

Callow studied at Queen 's University in Belfast. He made his debut as an actor in the movie Amadeus (1984). In Four Weddings and a Funeral, he starred opposite Hugh Grant, for this role he was nominated for the BAFTA Award. He also appeared in the British television series chance in a million. In 1991, he turned with The Ballad of the Sad Cafe his only previous film as director. The film participated in the Competition of the Berlinale 1991.

In 1999 Callow was awarded the Order of the British Empire.

Callow also writes as a thematic columnist for the British newspaper The Guardian.
