Simon Halsey

Patrick Simon Halsey ( born March 8, 1958 in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey ) is a British conductor and choir. Since April 2001, Halsey has been principal conductor of the Berlin Radio Choir.

Life and work

Born in 1958 in Kingston upon Thames in Surrey, Halsey was music director of the University of Warwick with 22 years. He is the son of a choir and a singer. Halsey was educated at traditional English choral schools like New College, Oxford and King's College, Cambridge.

He taught at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff and is a guest lecturer at the University of Minnesota and at Yale University. In June 2000 he was an honorary doctor of the title awarded by the University of Central England, Birmingham.

In October 2010 he was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st class of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Since 1982, Halsey has worked as a choir director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Since 2001 he holds the position of principal conductor of the Berlin Radio Choir Since August 2012, he also works closely with the London Symphony Orchestra collaborate and directs the London Symphony Chorus.

Simon Halsey lives in Birmingham and Berlin.
