Simon Hollósy

Simon Hollósy ( born February 2, 1857 in Máramarossziget; † May 8, 1918 in TECSO ) was a Hungarian painter. He is considered one of the most important representative of his country of naturalism and realism of the 19th century.

Hollósy was born into a family originating from Armenia. He first began to study painting in Budapest and came to Munich to continue his education at the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1886 he founded a private art school in the Bavarian capital. Among his pupils were, among others, Alexandra Povorina, Walter mercury and Karoly Kiss. At the turn of the 20th century, he was co-founder of the artists' colony in Nagybánya; where he taught, among other things Moissey Kogan and Richard Gerstl ( 1900-1901 ).
