Simon I of Tecklenburg (* 1140, † August 8, 1202 ) was from 1156 to 1202, Count of Tecklenburg

Life

Simon was the son of Henry I of Tecklenburg and Eilike ( Heilwig ) of Oldenburg ( * 1126, and after 1189 †) born. He succeeded his father as Count of Tecklenburg, acquired, among other Ibbenbüren and was a famous war hero of his time.

In 1173 he renounced the important pin Bailiwick of Münster. For years he was a faithful support of the Hohenstaufen, was in 1174 with Barbarossa in Italy. He fought as a captain with kurkölnischer in Saxony, Holstein, Italy and at the 3rd Crusade in Palestine and marked the high point of his house. He stood against Henry the Lion of Saxony- Bavaria because of its brutal rule aspirations and leaning faithful Archbishop Philip of Cologne, whose vassal he was.

He was captured on August 1, 1179 at the Battle of Halerfeld and Henry had to submit to the lions. In 1182 he got the pin Bailiwick of Osnabrück. Descendants

Simon was married to Oda of Berg- Altena (* 1145, † 1224 ), daughter of Count Eberhard I of Berg- Altena and Adelheid von Arnsberg. From this marriage the following children were born:

  • Johann (c. 1181; † around 1198 )
  • Otto I (c. 1185; † September 11, 1263 ), Count of Tecklenburg
  • Henry II (c. 1186 † 1226 ) from 1202 co-regent
  • Adolf (c. 1187; † June 30, 1224 ) was from 1216 Bishop of Osnabrück
