Simon-Joseph Pellegrin

Abbé Simon -Joseph Pellegrin (* 1663 in Marseille, † September 5, 1745 in Paris) was a French poet, librettist and playwright. On the recommendation of Madame de Maintenon, he joined the Order of Cluny.

Several of his libretti were set to music and performed at the Paris Opera: Télémaque with music by André Cardinal Destouches (1714 ), Renaud, ou la suite d' Armide, with music by Henry Desmarest (1722), with music by Michel Pignolet Jephté de Montéclair ( 1732), and Hippolyte et Aricie, the first opera by Jean -Philippe Rameau ( 1733).
