Simon Langton (television director)

Simon Guy Charles Langton ( born November 5, 1941 in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, England ) is a British film director.

Life

Simon Langton was born in 1941 in Amersham, the son of British actor David Langton, of the Richard Bellamy in the series The Upstairs, Downstairs (Upstairs, Downstairs ) played from 1971 until 1975. Simon Langton began in 1959 as an assistant stage manager of Folkestone Repertory Theatre his career, followed by a job as a stage manager at the Theatre Royal Windsor from 1960 to 1962, followed.

Then Simon Langton worked for British television, for which he in 1970 as a director staged a number of series, including two episodes of The Upstairs, Downstairs (1975). In 1983 he received a BAFTA nomination ever TV Award and an Emmy for Smiley's People (Smiley 's People, 1979), a six-part adaptation of the novel by John le Carré with Alec Guinness in the lead role.

However, its probably the best known work as a director is the BBC miniseries Pride and Prejudice ( Pride and Prejudice, 1995) starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth based on Jane Austen 's novel of 1813. This adaptation, for Langton nominated a second time for the BAFTA TV Award has received much critical acclaim and was a street sweeper both in Britain and in the United States. At Easter 1997, the miniseries in a televised broadcast of ZDF was first shown in Germany.
