Simon Lessing

Simon Lessing ( born February 12, 1971 in Cape Town ) is a British triathlete, Triple Triathlon European Championships (1991, 1993, 1994) and five-time Triathlon World Champion (short Distance: 1992, 1995, 1996, 1998; Long Distance: 1995) and Ironman winner ( 2004).

Career

When Simon Lessing was nine years old, his family moved to Durban. Even as a child and teenager Lessing was successful swimmers, sailors and biathlete and 14 years old, he started for the first time in a triathlon. In 1988 he was triathlon champion in South Africa. At the age of 18 years, Simon Lessing left South Africa in 1989 and launched in the UK as a professional triathlete. In 2002 he moved with his wife Lisa to Boulder in Colorado. In 2004 he won the Ironman in Lake Placid.

Today he operates with his wife and long-distance runner Colleen De Reuck a coaching agency for triathletes. He coached the reigning world and European champion on the Ironman distance Chrissie Wellington as well as the three -time Ironman winner Mary Beth Ellis.
