Simon Phillips

Simon Phillips ( born February 6, 1957 in London, England ) is a British drummer who has established itself in the musical fusion, rock and pop music genre. He became known mainly as a member of the band Toto. Phillips has worked as a studio musician. His references include Asia, Jeff Beck, Peter Gabriel, Mick Jagger, Judas Priest, Gary Moore, Mike Oldfield, Joe Satriani and The Who.

Biography

At the age of three he learned from his father Sid Phillips know the drums and the age of six he was given his first drum set. Two years later he played for the first time in his father's band. In 1972, he succeeded as a musician in the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar" the breakthrough and then worked as a session musician in the UK and the USA. In 1977, he played for the heavy metal band Judas Priest on their album Sin After Sin. He was, inter alia, the British band Ph.D. project, whose most successful single I Will not Let You Down after its release in late 1981 also in Germany was on the radio and was also placed in the German Top 20 in early 1982.

A wider audience, he became known to a range of publications in particular as a drummer Mike Oldfield, among others on whose albums Crises (1983) and Discovery (1984 ), which he co-produced with Oldfield and whom he accompanied on the following world tours.

In August 1992, just days after the death of Toto drummer Jeff Porcaro, Simon Phillips was ( still residing in England ) a call from Steve Lukather, the guitarist of Toto. Lukather asked him if he could imagine it, to go with Toto on a world tour. Phillips broke all studio works from, accelerated its planned move to America, and left England on 31 August 1992 with the goal of LA, where the next day began the rehearsals for the tour of Toto. After the tour, Toto asked him to become a permanent member of the band. Phillips agreed, and began shortly thereafter, with playing with the band whose new album. Phillips was also always active in his career as a producer.
