Life

Simon Schubert was during his studies master class of Irmin Kamp at the Dusseldorf Art Academy and assistant to Professor Paul Goodman. He was awarded the 2008 U.S. MORE Phoenix Art Prize.

Working

Schubert's works on paper created by a complex process of folding and seaming, by the quality and achieve a plastic three-dimensional large sheets of paper. With this technique, the artist creates perspectively distorted interiors, long corridors and steep flights of stairs within the respective architecture. His life-size sculptures often disappear behind thick hair and appear to the viewer zuzudrehen her back, the direction from which he also tries to approach them. Loneliness, isolation, loss and resolution are the recurring themes in Schubert's work.
