Simon Whitfield

Simon St. Quentin Whitfield ( born May 16, 1975 in Kingston ( Ontario) ) is a Canadian triathlete and Olympic gold medalist ( 2000). He holds both the Canadian and the Australian nationality.

Career

After Whitfield had played as a child already football, he started at the age of 11 years with the triathlon. At the Summer Olympics in Sydney he won in 2000 the first Olympic triathlon race in history. At the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, he won the gold medal and at the Summer Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 he was eleventh. In Beijing, he won the 2008 behind the German Olympic champion Jan Frodeno the silver medal.

In 2012 he was again placed together with Kathy Tremblay, Paula Findlay and Kyle Jones for a starting place at the Olympic Games in London.

Whitfield lives on Vancouver Iceland in Victoria (British Columbia).
