Simonas Daukantas

Simona Daukantas (* October 26, 1793 in Kalviai, Rajon Skuodas; † on 6 December 1864 in Papile, Rajon Akmenė, Lithuania ) was a Lithuanian historian, writer and one of the first Lithuanian ideologues in the 19th century.

Life

Daukantas grew up in the family of the forest guardian. The mother was buried in the cemetery Lenkimai.

Simona learned at the elementary school Kretinga and at school Samogitian Calvary, in the gymnasium Vilnius. 1822 graduated at the Vilniaus universitetas, but because of the legal proceedings of Filomaten and Filaretten he got the Master deed until 1825. Thereafter he lived in Riga, where he worked in the office of the Governor General of Riga. From 1835, he was a civil servant in the Senate in Saint Petersburg.
