Simpson County (Kentucky)

Simpson County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Franklin. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or even prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in southwestern Kentucky, bounded on the south by the State of Tennessee and has an area of 612 square kilometers without significant water surface. It borders in Kentucky clockwise to the following counties: Warren County, Allen County and Logan County.

History

Simpson County was formed on January 28, 1819 from parts of Allen County, Logan County and Warren County. It was named after Captain John Simpson, who was killed in 1813 during the Battle of River Raisin.
