Simpson County (Mississippi)

The Simpson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Mendenhall. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The County is located in south-central Mississippi and has an area of 1529 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

Simpson County was formed on January 23, 1824 from parts of the Choctaw country. It was named after Josiah Simpson, a member of the Constituent Assembly ( Constitunional Convention ) of Mississippi.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Simpson County 27 639 people in 10,076 households and 7,385 families. The population density was 18 people per square kilometer.
