Simtek S951

The Simtek S951 came in the 1995 season to use and is the second and final Formula 1 race of the British Formula 1 team Simtek. It was designed by Nick Wirth, Team Principal and founder of the racing team. The car was initially intended for the Italian Domenico Schiattarella and the Dutchman Jos Verstappen, who previously was a year with Benetton Formula under contract. The Japanese driver Hideki Noda was used as a test driver and was intended to replace in the second half of the season Schiattarella as No. 11.

The S951 was powered by a V8 engine of the Ford Cosworth ED series. The vehicle is considered as a further development of the Simtek S941 from the previous season and proved to be more competitive than its predecessor. Jos Verstappen was able to regularly qualify for the middle starting positions and compete during the racing phase despite numerous failures with the midfield.

At the Monaco Grand Prix, the fifth race of the season, Nick Wirth announced that his team with more than 6 million pounds was in debt. Financial support had been hoped for, especially from the sponsors Noda, who had, however, withdrawn as a result of the earthquake of Kobe from the racing business. Simtek renounced the next race in Canada and filed for bankruptcy. The vehicles were sold under the liquidation and thereafter were only seen at the historic championships and exhibitions.
