Sinan Pasha Mosque (Prizren)

The Sinan Pasha Mosque (Albanian Xhamia e Sinan Pashës, Serbian Синан Пашина Џамија / Sinan Pašina Džamija, Turkish Sinan Paşa Camii ) in Prizren is an important cultural monument of the Ottoman era of Kosovo. It is also the largest Islamic house of worship in the country and a landmark in the city of Prizren.

History

The mosque was the vizier Sinan Pasha at the beginning of the 17th century, near the river Bistrica Prizrenska ( Alb. Lumëbardhi ) built in the center of the old town. Their construction is mostly ( or the 1608 ) and 1615 dated from 1600. For the walls of the building stone and sculptural decorations of the destroyed Archangel church were used. The mosque was completely restored between 2007 and 2011.

Plant

The mosque is built on a square plan, the page length is 17.80 m. The dome is supported by an octagonal drum on squinches. The rectangular area of the mihrab is covered by a Halbkalotte. The decorations on the ceiling of Betsaales originate mainly from the 19th century. The ornaments are decorated floral and colorful. The tetrastyle porch with three domes was destroyed during the First World War. The height of the minaret is given as 42 m ( Trifunović ).
