Sinapyl alcohol (trans- 3 ,5- dimethoxy-4- hydroxyzimtalkohol ) is a chemical compound selected from the group of phenylpropanoids or cinnamic acid derivatives.
Occurrence
Sinapyl alcohol and coniferyl alcohol occurs naturally in addition coumaryl alcohol as monomer of lignin ( the supporting polymer of plants and wood) before. This sinapyl alcohol is the main ingredient of the lignin in hardwoods. The biosynthesis of sinapyl alcohol is carried out in a multi-step process, is formed in which, in Phenylpropanstoffwechsel from phenylalanine or tyrosine, trans-cinnamic acid, which is converted by hydroxylation and methylation to sinapic acid. This in turn is reduced by the Sinapinaldehyd to sinapyl alcohol. It is also the biosynthesis of an aldehyde stage by the coniferyl aldehyde 5- hydroxylase ( Cald5H ), subsequent methylation by 5- Hydroxyconiferylaldehyd -O- methyltransferase ( AldOMT ) and ultimately reducing the sinapyl alcohol dehydrogenase ( SAD).
Properties
Sinapyl alcohol is an air-sensitive solid. The technical product contains up to 20 % ethyl acetate.
