Sindhudurg district

The district Sindhudurg ( Marathi: सिंधुदुर्ग जिल्हा ) is one of 35 districts in the state of Maharashtra in India. The main town of Oros counts less than 5,000 inhabitants. The last census in 2011 showed a total population of 849 651 people.

Population

The urban population accounts for only 12.59 percent of the total population. A clear vast majority of the population are Hindus. In terms of figures small minorities form the Buddhists, Muslims and Christians. In 2001, of 868 825 inhabitants, 802 498 Hindus ( 92.37 percent), 24.320 Buddhists (2.80 percent), 23 668 Muslims (2.72 percent) and 16,001 Christians (1.84 per cent).

Significant places

Strongest town inhabitants of the district is Sawantwadi at around 23,000 residents. Other important cities with a population of more than 10,000 people are Malwan, Kankavli, Kudal and Vengurla.
