Sinegorye

Sinegorje (Russian Синегорье ) is an urban-type settlement in Magadan Oblast (Russia) with 2821 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The village is located about 280 km as the crow north of Magadan Oblastverwaltungszentrums on the left bank of the Kolyma River a few kilometers upstream of the confluence of the right tributary Bachaptscha.

Sinegorje belongs to Rajon Jagodninski and is located about 70 km south-east of the administrative center Yagodnoye. The settlement is the seat and only town in the municipality ( gorodskoje posselenije ) Possjolok Sinegorje.

History

The settlement was founded in 1971 in connection with the construction of the dam and hydroelectric power plant of the Kolyma reservoir, which lie a few kilometers upstream. In 1972 Sinegorje received the status of an urban-type settlement. The name is derived from sinije gory, Russian for Blue Mountains. After the completion of the power plant in the 1990s, most of the inhabitants left the place, which is now mainly occupied by the employees of the power plant and their families.

1999 Annunciation Church (Russian chram Blagoweschtschenija Preswjatoi Bogoroditsy ) was consecrated in Sinegorje; the place is eponymous for the Eparchy of Magadan and Sinegorje of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Traffic

After Sinegorje performs a good 30 km long access road that branches off in Debin of the highway R504 Kolyma, Magadan with the Nizhny Bestjach at Yakutsk connects (previously M56, number until 2017 alternatively in use). The good 20 km north- northeast at the left Kolymaufer located little Sinegorje airport since 2000 out of service.
