Singapore Biennale

The Singapore Biennale is a biennial for contemporary art, which will be held in Singapore since 2006. The organizer is the Singapore Art Museum with the support of the government 's National Arts Council.

History

The Singapore Biennale is held in alternate years to the Singapore Art Show, which is Singaporean artists reserved. The main venue was the Singapore Art Museum and the City Hall of Singapore. In addition, the Biennale has been shown in a number of temples and public places works of art.

Biennials

1st Singapore Biennale 4 September to 12 November 2006

The first Singapore Biennale took place on 4 September to 12 November 2006 under the artistic direction of Fumio Nanjo. Their motto was Belief (faith). At the Biennale took part 95 artists from 38 countries were represented by 195 works of art. Participating artists included Jenny Holzer, Mariko Mori, Carsten Nicolai, James Turrell and Mark Wallinger. The Biennale was integrated into the series of events Singapore 2006.

2nd Singapore Biennale 11 September to 16 November 2008

Artistic Director: Fumio Nanjo, the motto was Wonder ( wonder / miracle ). We invited 68 artists, including Ilya Kabakov, Anthony McCall and Mariele Neudecker.
