Singapore Marathon

The Singapore Marathon ( official name Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon ) is a marathon, to be held in Singapore since 2002 in December. The program also includes a half marathon and a 10 - km run.

History

The current race has two precursor events: the Singapore International Marathon, the one that took place since 1980 in the straight and the Singapore mobile Marathon since 1989 in odd years. After the events in 2001 merged to become ExxonMobil Singapore International Marathon, dissolved the following year the Standard Chartered Bank as the title sponsor from ExxonMobil. This was accompanied by a complete redesign of the barrel; so there was now instead of a partial closure of the line for the movement, the usual other city marathons full closure. A rapid increase in the number of participants now nothing stood in the way.

Route

Start of all runs is on the Esplanade. The marathon runners run first a short loop south to Tanjong Pagar and then return via the Raffles Place returns to the starting area. North of the Singapore River bends of the course to the east and crosses the Raffles Avenue and Nicoll Highway to the East Coast Park, which is run on a loop in its length. The last quarter of the route passes through Kallang, then at Kallang River along the Singapore Flyer. After passing the Marina Bay Floating Platform and the starting area, you get to the destination on the St Andrew 's Road between the Padang and City Hall.

The half marathon and 10K runners turn after the start in the south east now and get on the Benjamin Sheares Bridge on the north bank of the Singapore River, where they embarked on the last part of the marathon, the half marathon runners before a turning point distance on the Nicoll Highway graduate.

The track is indeed extremely flat, the times achieved are however affected despite the start time of 5:30 am local time by the hot and humid climate.
