Singkep

Singkep ( indonesian Pulau Singkep ) is the southernmost of the Indonesian Lingga Islands off the east coast of Sumatra in the Malay Archipelago.

Geography

Singkep lies south of the neighboring island of Lingga at the southern end of the South China Sea.

The island's capital is Dabo Singkep in the south. Other places are Sungai Buluh, Jago and Pekakak on the north coast and Batuberadaun, Marok Kecil and Marok Tua on the south coast.

The island has an area of ​​757.3 km ², the highest elevation is 475 m.

In the north, in the middle of the road to Lingga, the small neighboring island Selayar lies with the capital Penuba. To the west lies Posik with the homonymous city, surrounded by other small islands.

About 100 km to the west of Sumatra lies with the delta of the Indragiri, the intervening sea area is called Selat Berhala.

Transport and the economy

Ferries leave from Tanjung Pinang on Bintan after Dabo and Iago.
