Singleton Palmer

Singleton Palmer (born 13 November 1913 in St. Louis, † March 8, 1993 same place ) was an American bass player ( bass, tuba ) of the Hot Jazz and Swing, is an integral part of the scene of his hometown was.

Life and work

Palmer was involved in the late 1920s on recordings by Oliver Cobb. From 1931 onwards he accompanied three years Eddie Johnson, then to act until 1941 with Dewey Jackson. Until 1948, he worked with George Hudson, but also took up with Clark Terry and Jimmy Forrest. 1949 and 1950 he belonged to the Count Basie Orchestra; next he went with Big Joe Williams and Sonny Boy Williamson into the recording studio.

In 1950 he left Count Basie to form his own band, the Dixieland Six, which occurred more than thirty years in the region of St. Louis and has been documented several times on albums. The group included musicians such as Robert Carter, Dewey Jackson and Ben Thigpen. The Chicago Dixieland Stompers praised him already in the 1950s with her Blues for Singleton Palmer.
