History

The Sioux County was formed on 15 January 1851. Self Managed it was named from 20 January 1860. Was after the Indian people of the Sioux.

The first was the county seat in 1860 in Calliope, at that time a small village with 15 inhabitants. The first courthouse was built here in 1860 and served as such until 1872.
