SIP Express Router

SIP Express Router (SER ) is a configurable SIP server ( RFC3261 ), which is licensed as free software under the terms of the GNU General Public License ( GPL).

SIP Express Router is a pure IP telephony solution that is used especially in the larger service providers. SER takes care of the assembly and disassembly of telephone calls over the Internet and also provides many other services for Internet telephony available. SER is fast and cost- usable and is a high performance and scalability rumored.

SER is provided in contrast to Asterisk VoIP for larger installations. However, both also work together very effectively by employing SER as a switch and the voice data routes through Asterisk. Through this solution, the advantages of SER let ( many stable compounds ) and Asterisk (several available protocols) used simultaneously.

History

SER was developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (FOKUS ) in 2001 and later developed further by the newly founded company iptel.org. Some of the SER developers started with the free software project OpenSER secession.

In November 2008, the SER developers announced that they ( former OpenSER ) to work together in the future with the Kamailio project together to further the server. The code has been merged within the framework of established for this SIP Router Project. The published 11 January 2010 Kamailio 3.0 is based on this new merged source code.
