Siple-Station

Siple is the name of two Antarctic research stations Stanford STAR Labs, named in honor of the North American Antarctic explorer Paul Siple.

The Siple Station I was designed for a crew of 4 people and was built in 1973 to study the magnetosphere with long waves. The thick ice cover and the location near the South Pole enabled a relatively efficient operation of the dipole antenna in 3- kHz range.

After its destruction by ice was slightly above 1979 built the station Siple II, which provided space for eight people for the winter. In the 1980s, the station was abandoned because the research program was met.
