Sipplingen

Sipplingen is a municipality in the district of Bodensee in Baden- Württemberg, about six kilometers west of Überlingen on the northern bluffs of Lake Überlingen, a part of Lake Constance.

Geography

Nature and landscape protection areas

In the municipality Sipplingens three nature reserves ( Hödinger Tobel, Köstenerberg, Sipplinger triangle) as well as a conservation area ( Lake Constance ) are reported (as of 30 April 2009).

History

The area around Sipplingen is settled very long. The well-preserved sequence of sedimentary layers of the Sipplinger shore of Lake Constance proved to be a rich archaeological site of Stone Age, Neolithic and Bronze Age pile-dwelling time. About 20 settlements have now been demonstrated. Dendrochronological investigations date the first settlement on exactly 3919 BC and the last to 933 BC In addition, in 2008 a prehistoric shoe was of diving archaeologists from the State Office of Historic Monuments of Baden- Württemberg before Sipplingen in a shallow water zone found. It is a very well-preserved, plaited bast sandal that is dated 2917-2856 BC.

The village Sipplingen probably originated between the 6th and 8th centuries. First mentioned in writing the place in a document from the year 1155, in the Emperor Frederick I ( Barbarossa ) is defined the boundaries of the diocese of Constance.

For a long time Sipplingen developed in relative obscurity. Due to its steep banks able roads and railway connections emerged only in the 19th century to the neighboring communities. In the 20th century the then prevailing agriculture became less important and the town developed into a residential community.

In Sipplingen are the remains of castles Haldenberg, Hohenfels and Hüneberg.

In the mayoral election unopposed 8 March 2009 Anselm Neher was confirmed with 98.85 percent of the valid votes with a voter turnout of 57.36 per cent for a second term.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of the municipality Sipplingen shows in silver a red lion, the breast topped with a slanted left natural right hand, with the right paw a growing from the lower margin golden vine with three golden grapes and three green leaves, holding the left a blue Rebmesser.

Economy and infrastructure

A portion of the working population commutes to the nearby larger cities, such as Überlingen and Friedrichshafen. The inhabitants work mainly in the SME sector in resort. In the commercial area Längerach mainly local craftsmen and tradesmen settled. For years, the focus continuously shifts from manufacturing to service industries. In particular, the tourism is becoming increasingly important.

Primarily for sideline or for personal use lots of fruit is cultivated, with the cherry plays a particularly important role. In addition, plum, mirabelle, plums, apples, pears and walnuts are grown and produced honey. The Sipplinger bluff landscape is agricultural use only with great difficulty through orchards, gardens, woodlands, and shrubs. There are 26 small burner (as of December 2011).

The water intake and treatment facilities of SMICTOM Lake Constance Water Supply, which supplies about four million citizens in Baden- Württemberg with drinking water, are on Sipplinger district.

Traffic

Sipplingen old is on the main road 31, about four kilometers east of Bodman -Ludwigshafen and six kilometers west of Überlingen. The community is approached via the Lake Constance belt path but also on the Deutsche Bahn AG and belongs to the Upper Swabia Transport Association ( bodo ) to. Sipplingen can be reached by motor boat company Bodman mbH from early April to mid-October, both of Bodman -Ludwigshafen and from Überlingen over the lake.

As a direct lakefront community Sipplingen is also station of the Lake Constance Bike Path and the Bodensee round path.

Through the municipal area Sipplingens the sixth stage of the Jubilee path, a 111 km long trail that was marked for the 25th anniversary of the Lake Constance area in 1998 passes. It leads across six stages through the hinterland of Lake Constance from Kressborn about Neukirch, Meckenbeuren, Mark Village, Heiligenberg and Owingen to Überlingen.

Educational institutions

The village has a kindergarten and a primary and secondary school.

Leisure and sports facilities

Sipplingen has two marinas where boats of locals and holiday guests are. On the quays there is a beach volleyball court, two boules or bocce courts and a public beach. On Hauberg there are two football pitches, a small playing field and athletics facilities.

Culture and sights

Worth seeing are the views of Lake Constance and the over 1000 - year old lime tree at the Gasthof Haldenhof.

Museums

In the old station building there is a small gallery.

Structures

  • In the village center is the old Catholic parish church of St. Martin, which St. Martin and St. George is dedicated; the interior of the Gothic building is the Baroque style.
  • The Franciscan monastery was founded before 1445 Sipplingen and dissolved in 1782.

Customs

The citizen militia from Sipplingen consists of the departments team marching band, militia chapel and under arms. Their existence they owe their action in 1849 against the Baden revolutionaries in Bodman.
