Sir Edmund Backhouse, 2nd Baronet

Sir Edmund Trelawny Backhouse, 2nd Baronet ( born October 20, 1873 in Darlington, Durham, † January 8, 1944 in Beijing) was a British scientist and linguist Orient. He has influenced the perspective of the Western world, largely due to the last decades of the Qing Dynasty. However, the modern historiography was able to demonstrate that most of his sources were fake.

Backhouse was born into a Quaker family in Darlington. Among his relatives were found a number of churchmen and scientists. Backhouse himself visited the Winchester College, and Merton College, Oxford. But he has not completed his studies, when he fled in 1895 because of high debt from the UK.
