Sir George Thomas, 7th Baronet

Sir George Alan Thomas ( born June 14, 1881 in Therapia in Istanbul, † July 23, 1972 in London) was a British chess, badminton and tennis player who was successful in all three sports.

Chess

He learned chess from 1894 by his mother Lady Edith Thomas, who was a strong tennis player and 1895 in Hastings won the first Women's Tennis Tournament.

1896 Sir Thomas won in a simultaneous exhibition against Emanuel Lasker. He was twice (1920 and 1923), British chess master and received by FIDE in 1950 the title of International Master awarded. Seven times he took part in a Chess Olympiad.

His best historical Elo rating was 2610th This he reached in January 1923.

Tennis

In tennis, he reached the second round in Wimbledon 1922 men's singles.

Badminton

As a badminton player, he won 21 times and the All England is the most successful player in this event at all. He was co-founder in 1935 of the World Federation IBF, which he chaired until 1956.
