Sir Thomas Hislop, 1st Baronet

Thomas Hislop, 1st Baronet, GCB (* July 5, 1762, † May 3, 1843 in Charlton) was a British General and Deputy Governor of Trinidad.

Hislop was born on July 5, 1762, the son of Lieutenant-Colonel William Hislop and attended the Royal Military Academy.

In 1778 he joined as an ensign in the 39th Regiment of Foot. 1779 to 1783 he was stationed in Gibraltar. In the years 1793-1795 he was employed in Ireland, Corsica and the Roman- German Empire. 1796 to 1802 he participated in the conquest of the West Indian colonies of the Netherlands. 1803 to 1811 he was Deputy Governor of Trinidad and was at the capture of Guadeloupe in 1810 present. During the British -American War, he fell on December 29, 1812 after a battle with the HMS Java the USS Constitution in captivity. During the battle he had stayed on deck and had the team supports Java, for which he was praised later. He was put in Salvador ( Brazil) by the Americans at liberty, and returned in 1814 returned to Britain. In the same year he took up his post as commander in chief in Madras, which he held until 1820.
