Sir William Gull, 1st Baronet

Sir William Withey Gull ( born December 31, 1816 in Colchester, Essex, † January 29, 1890 in London) was an English physician.

The family into which William Gull was born, was poor. But he was lucky enough to find with the head of Guy's Hospital in London a wealthy sponsor. He studied medicine in London and graduated in 1841 his studies.

He became a professor and taught at Guy's Hospital. After he had his heir, who suffered from typhoid, successfully treated, he was both knighted and royal private physician.

When he died, he left behind an enormous fortune. In 1976, Stephen Knight published a book in which he set up the thesis that Sir William Gull had committed the murders of Jack the Ripper. However Gull in 1888 (the period of the Ripper murders ) 71 years old and had a stroke behind.
