Siraces

The Siraken (Greek Sirakoi, lat Siraces, Siraci ) were a Sarmatian tribe member who was originally based in Kazakhstan. In the late 5th century BC, the Siraken immigrated to the areas north of the Black Sea, and in the late 4th century BC, they settled between the Don and the Caucasus. Finally, where she gained the mastery over the Kuban.

The Siraken were the first Sarmatian people, to whom came the Greek settlers on the Black Sea coast in contact. In the following years, lively relations between the Siraken and the Bosporan kingdom developed. Many Siraken gave their semi-nomadic lifestyle on and settled down, took over Greek culture and learned the Greek language.

The Siraken are considered the most gräkisierten the Sarmatians in the Black Sea region. The Siraken were numerically one of the smaller Sarmatian tribes, but they were, according to the Greek historian Strabo in a position during the reign of the Bosporan ruler set up Pharnakes II ( 63-47 BC), an army of 20,000 horsemen (for comparison: the Aorsen were 200,000 riders digging ).
