Sirsukh

Sirsukh ( Urdu سر سکھ ) is a city facility at Taxila in Pakistan's Punjab province.

The city

Sirsukh was founded by the Kushan king Kanishka, around the year 80 AD. The Kushan kings decided to leave the old city of Taxila conditioning, Sirkap, and instead to build a new city on the other side of the stream - Lundi Nala. The city wall of Sirsukh is about five miles long and about 5.4 meters wide. The city encompasses an approximately 2300 x 1000 meters large area in an east-west orientation. Sirsukh was devastated during the conquest of the Punjab by the Hephthalites ( "White Huns " ) at the end of the fifth century.

The old town complex was excavated in the years 1915 and 1916 only a very small part. You, being a part of Taxila since 1980 a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The city wall

The city wall was built of large stone blocks. The wall is very smooth on the outside. Bastions to defend the city are present in small intervals in the wall. The bastions have a round structure and contain loopholes for archers.
