Sirtaki

The Sirtaki (Greek συρτάκι syrtaki, small syrtos ') is a dance from the movie Zorba of 1964, which is perceived by its fame mostly as a Greek folk dance. It is danced in a row, the dancers put their arms over the shoulders of the neighbors. This is different from the traditional dances, which are usually in a circle, with wider hands, danced. Sirtaki is therefore regarded as invented tradition.

Origin

The sequence of Sirtaki was the first time in 1964 to film music by Mikis Theodorakis choreographed for the film Zorba the novel by Nikos Kazantzakis, ostensibly to facilitate the presentation to the Greek dances for little talented lead actor Anthony Quinn; originally a fünftaktiger Pentosalis was intended for the final dance scene. Together with the film and the Sirtaki became known internationally and for many non- Greeks, the epitome of Greek dance.

Received its name from the Sirtaki Folk Dance syrtos, actually Sirtos choros (Greek: συρτóς χορóς ), which means " the slow dance " means, in contrast to the cracked dance, pidiktos choros (Greek: πηδηκτóς χορóς ). The choreography of new dance leaned on first with slow steps to the Constantinopolitan Chasapiko ( " dance of the butchers of Constantinople Opel " ) and will end in the rapid sequence of steps Chasaposervikos ( Servikos " Serbian ", a fast Chasapikos ) above.

Name

" Sirtaki " is the diminutive ( diminutive ) to syrtos, the most traditional kind of Greek folk dances. Almost every island (group) has its own syrtos, such as the syrtos Skiros, the Sirtos Silivrianos of Naxos or the Chaniotiko ( syrtos of Chania, Crete ). There are also on the mainland dances, such as the syrtos the Sarakatsani that carry the nickname " syrtos ", but with the syrtos in 2/4-cycle with the dance rhythm "long - short-short " have nothing to do. The syrtos is danced in an open circuit and with an unlimited number of participants, Sirtaki ( Syrtaki ), the "little syrtos " is, because of the possibility of free combination of his characters (as opposed to the fixed step impacts of traditional folk dances ) are usually only two or three attuned people danced.
