Sisnando Davides

Sesnando Davide (* 963 in Tentúgal, † 1091 ( uncertain) in Coimbra ) was a Mozarabic knights and Regent.

Name

He is and has been mentioned several times under other names such as Sisnando Davidis, Sisnando Davidéz de Coimbra or Sisnando Davide de Coimbra, while he is known as Sisnando Davídiz in Spain.

Biography

In a landowning family in Tentúgal born, probably the son of Jewish parents, he came in 1026 with campaigns of Abbad II al - Arab Mu'tadid in captivity. In Seville he was an Arab training and became a minister and councilor at the court of Abbadids.

For unknown reasons, he fled to the court of the Christian king Ferdinand I. to Leon. After the recapture of Coimbra from the Moors in 1064 by the troops of King Ferdinand, he became Regent of the restored county Coimbra, which included his hometown Tentúgal, which he ruled until 1068 at least.

He was then involved in various campaigns of the Reconquista, including the conquest of Toledo in 1085 his 1080 held strategic records the original term Reconquista is (English: Reconquest ). Attributed to the first found widespread in later times.

After his death in 1091 he was in the Cathedral of Coimbra, now called the Sé Velha, buried.

His life was the subject of a drama by José Freire de Serpa Pimentel (1814-1870), the second Visconde de Gouveia. The piece with the name D.Sisnado, Conde de Coimbra (German: Dom Sisnado, Count of Coimbra ) was published in 1838.

His son Martim Moniz lent his hand in the conquest and the Siege of Lisbon.
