Action

The less successful lounge singer Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder. Your married lover Curtis Shanks, who is a great man in the underworld and is responsible for the murder, gives his henchmen the order to turn it off.

Because Deloris is the only witness, she is hiding after their escape from Lieutenant Eddie Souther as Sister Mary Clarence against their will in a monastery. There, however, it has serious problems adjusting and finally directed by the Mother Superior, the nuns' choir, whose singing skills are not exactly uplifting, sing along. But Mary Clarence, the group give a clear structure and is conductor of the choir, they peppy teaches the Gospel of Harlem tradition. The new program of the choir again attracts many people in the church; Finally, the Pope learns of the now famous group and announces his visit for a concert.

But before the nuns can please the Pope with their singing, is a photo in a newspaper article Shanks pointing out the whereabouts of his former lover. Shanks and his accomplices Bones, TJ and Dinero sneak disguised as nuns in the monastery and try to kidnap Deloris. Thanks to her sisters and Eddie Souther, who still shows up on time, the project can be stopped and Shanks were arrested along with an accomplice.

In the final scene, the sisters give the expected concert for the Pope. Sister Mary Clarence - although in the Habit, but without a veil - helps the chorus one last time to a very successful performance.
