Sisters of Mercy

The Religious Order of the Sisters of Mercy ( RSM) ( German: religious order of the Sisters of Mercy) in Germany: Sisters of Charity is a Catholic religious institute, founded in 1831 by Catherine McAuley in Dublin, Ireland. The Order had about 10,000 members worldwide in 2003 and is organized in various congregations.

Activities

The Sister of Mercy RSM are an international community of Roman Catholic women. They have made it their mission to help people who suffer from poverty, disease and lack of education. Particular attention is paid to women and children. The sisters have committed themselves to the evangelical counsels ( suggestions ) of poverty, celibate chastity, and obedience and attach importance to the service of others. Take part in the life of their environment. Many sisters are involved as teachers, in the nursing and community service. Your community also takes an active part in political processes.

History

The community took its beginning when Catherine McAuley used an inherited fortune to open a House of Mercy in Dublin. This offered educational, religious and social services for poor women and children. Since such offers were traditionally offered by nuns rather than lay people, through local resistance suggested. The church administration agreed then to establish a non klausuriertes religious institute. The sisters of this institute became known as "Walking Nuns " ( Running nuns ), as they were able to take care of the poor and outside the monastery walls. The original House of Mercy still exists today in the Lower Baggot Street, Dublin as Mercy International Centre.

The Sisters of Mercy RSM are active as a religious and charitable organization in several states. They are mainly used in Anglo-Saxon countries: Ireland, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Australia and New Zealand.

In Germany lead the Sisters of Mercy of Alma (English Religious Sisters of Mercy RSM), which are in the tradition of McAuley, since 1990 the " meeting and counseling center ," a psychological practice, the Liebfrauenplatz in Mainz and took over 1992, as » Monastery Breuberg " known St. Marie House in Breuberg, Hesse.
