Sita Air is a regional airline from Nepal, based at Kathmandu airport. It operates scheduled and cargo, as well as charter flights.

History

Sita Air was founded on 6 February 2003 with a leased Dornier 228 and took to flight operations. In April of the same year came yet another Th -228 in addition to the airline, soon followed by others. Today, Sita Air operates five of its own aircraft.

Fleet

As of March 2010 Sita Air has 4 aircraft Dornier 228 turboprop engines. With these aircraft Sita Air transported next to air freight up to 18 passengers. The machines are STOL aircraft ( Short Takeoff and Landing ), thus allowing the coupled approach of airports with short runways.

Incidents

  • On 1 October 2004 the nose gear of a Dornier 228 slumped to the Lukla airport and the aircraft was badly damaged on the runway. She came at the end of the 1600ft runway (about 530m ) to a halt. The incident made ​​sure that the airport was closed for two days because the machine had to be recovered. There were no serious injuries or deaths.
  • On September 28, 2012 a Dornier 228 crashed en route from Kathmandu to Lukla near Kathmandu, all 19 occupants were killed. The machine was overloaded and the authorities reported a bird strike as a possible cause.
