Sitara Achakzai

Sitara Atschiksai (also called Sitara Achakzai ) (* around 1957 in Afghanistan, † April 12, 2009 in Kandahar ) was a German - Afghan politician and women's rights activist.

Sitara Atschiksai, a trained teacher, lived since the early 1980s with her family in Germany. In Bergisch Gladbach she had, engaged with her ​​husband, a postdoctoral chemist and university lecturers in a club for literacy, vocational training and infrastructure development in southern Afghanistan. With the collected money schools were opened in Kandahar and Afghan families supported to enable their children to attend school.

In 2001 she returned with her ​​husband back to Afghanistan and was involved in the reconstruction of the country, especially the rights of women in Afghanistan. She was provincial councilor and deputy in the regional parliament in Kandahar province.

Achikzai was shot on April 12, 2009 by four men on motorcycles in front of her house. The radical Islamic Taliban pleaded against the news agency Agence France Presse ( AFP) to the murder of the politician.
