Sittwe, formerly Akjab ( burmese Tsit - Htwe ) is the capital of Rakhine or. Arakan State in Myanmar and also forms the main port on the east coast of the island Akjab and at the mouth of Arakan current ( or Kualadan ).

Sittwe has a convenient location for shipping due to the large and safe harbor.

Sittwe came in 1826 by the Treaty of Jandabu under British rule. In particular, much has been traded with rice. 1870, the British writer Hector Hugh Munro was born in Akjab.
