Sivananda Yoga

The International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta organization is non-profit and goes back to the two Sivananda Yoga Master and Vishnudevananda. It consists of a worldwide network of ashrams and centers in which the classical yoga techniques are taught. The organization was founded in 1957 by Vishnudevananda in Val- Morin, ( Quebec). The proliferation of yoga teaching, and international yoga teacher training are at the heart of the organization. After Vishnudevananda, the goal is to bring the people yoga as a path to health and inner peace closer, thus creating the conditions for peace in the outer world, and to bring body, mind and spirit into balance and strengthen.

Five pillars

After Vishnudevananda the five basic pillars of yoga practice are those of the classical yoga asanas ( yoga postures ), pranayama ( breathing exercises) and deep relaxation (yoga nidra ), but also proper nutrition and meditation, which in part Mantra meditation involves. To explain these five points more vivid, the yoga master took a pictorial equation between the human body and car. Both needed exactly five things to run smoothly: car like body should be lubricated regularly / oiled (asanas ); both needed a battery ( yoga breathing exercises to boost the body with energy ). Indispensable are also fuel ( proper nutrition ) and cooling ( relaxation). She discovered that the car as well as the human body " roadworthy ". What is still lacking, the intelligent and prudent driver ( spirit, which is directed via meditation and positive thinking ) is.
