Six-red World Championship

The 6- Red World Championship is a tournament in snooker variant Six -Red snooker.

History

The tournament was established in 2008 as a 6 -Red Snooker International and held in Thailand's capital Bangkok. The tournament was not part of Snooker Main Tour, even though 21 of the 48 participants were professionals from the Main Tour. Organising Association was the Asian Confederation of Billiards Sports ( ACBS ). Over the next two editions, there were more editions under the name 6- Red World Grand Prix or 6- Red World Championship, again with professional involvement but without that the tournament would be part of the official main tour calendar.

In December 2009, a similar event with the name 6- Red World Championship was held in Killarney (Ireland ), which was sponsored by 888.com and won by Mark Davis.

In the season 2011/ 12 was not the event in Bangkok, nor repeated in Ireland. In the 2012/13 season there was in Bangkok a remake, this time as part of the main tour, but as an invitation tournament without influence on the snooker world rankings.

2008

The 6 -Red Snooker SangSom International 2008 was held from 8 to 13 July 2008 at Montien Riverside Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.

Although 21 of the 48 participants in the season in 2008 /09 professionals from the main tour was not part of the tournament Snooker Main Tour. Organising Association was the Asian Confederation of Billiards Sports ( ACBS ).

In the group stage played in eight groups of six players each against all. The four best of each group qualified for the final round. There, the two finalists were determined in the knockout system. The mode has remained the same for the following tournaments.

In the final, the Englishman Ricky Walden defeated his compatriot Stuart Bingham 8-3.

In the first tournament of the previous 6- Red World Championship, there were six Breaks maximum of 75 points. Most Maximum Breaks, namely two, reached Michael Holt.

2009

The SangSom 6- Red World Grand Prix 2009 was held from July 7 to 12, 2009 also at the Montien Riverside Hotel in Bangkok instead.

Like last year, also belonged to this tournament is not the official main tour calendar, although 23 of the 48 participants Main Tour professionals were.

Jimmy White won the final against Barry Hawkins 8-6, having already beaten the defending champion Ricky Walden 6-5 in the second round.

In the second edition of this tournament there were three maximum breaks of which Michael Holt, Ryan Day and Jimmy White each one played.

2010

The SangSom 6- Red World Championship 2010 was held from 19th to 24th July 2010.

28 of the 48 participants were Main Tour professionals, but did not score well in this tournament for Snooker Main Tour.

Defending champion Jimmy White was eliminated by his last year's final opponent Barry Hawkins in the quarterfinals. With Gerard Greene retired the last non - British, also in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Won the final against Mark Selby Ricky Walden 8-6. Ricky Walden was the first player who has twice reached the final of the 6- Red World Championship.

In the 6- Red World Championship 2010, there were ten maximum breaks. Andrew Pagett and Jimmy White were playing with two maximum, the most.

2012

The SangSom 6 -Red World Championship 2012 was 2 also discharged until July 7, like all previous tournaments at Montien Riverside Hotel in Bangkok. This year the tournament was first part of the Snooker Main Tour.

Mark Selby, the defending champion from the year 2010 retired in the quarterfinals with 5:7 against Judd Trump. As with all previous tournaments, there were 2012 all-English final. Mark Davis won 8:4 against Shaun Murphy.

This year there were so few maximum breaks like never before. Judd Trump and Shaun Murphy played each one.
